About This Tour
The cool, quiet north of the island, up where the air thins and the crowds fall away. The day is built around water: the lakeside temple of Ulun Danu Beratan floating on its reflection, and the Leke Leke waterfall reached by a footbridge through the forest. Between them you pass through the Handara gate framing the mountains behind it, a highland coffee plantation and the Jatiluwih rice terraces, a UNESCO site that spreads across an entire valley.

Coffee Plantation
A stop on the climb north to taste highland coffee, cacao and herbal teas, and to see the crops growing on the slopes.

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple
The temple sits on a small island in Lake Beratan and appears to float when the water is still. Built in the 17th century for the lake goddess Dewi Danu, it is the image on the 50,000 rupiah note.

Handara Gate
The candi bentar split gate stands alone against the mountains, one of the most recognisable frames on the island. Your driver will help with the photo.

Lunch in the Highlands
Balinese cuisine at a restaurant looking out over the lake or the valley. Vegetarian and vegan options available.

Leke Leke Waterfall
A fifteen minute walk through forest and across a bamboo footbridge brings you to a narrow fall dropping into a clear pool. Quieter than the southern waterfalls.

Jatiluwih Rice Terraces
The UNESCO-listed terraces run across the whole valley, far wider and less visited than Tegallalang. Walking paths let you get well into the fields.
